Why AMD's software and other stuff isn't functional at this point in time is beyond me. Catalyst is broken and changes things without you knowning, and did I mention my gripe with OpenGL and switchable graphics?
This stuff's annoying.

AMD is great.

maxwell is a win7 and amd fanboy even though linux and intel are somewhat better

As much as I like AMD/ATI, their software is notoriously bad.

They released some driver and software updates for certain cards, try to update everything you can and give it another shot if possible.

ATI card are the only thing AMD I have though.

my grandpa has a gaming case, i5 quad core, pretty nice motherboard, 16gb of ram, fancy monitor,  but no gpu.

Grandpa, what are you doing?

I smell a Christmas present idea!

I smell a bottleneck
if that stuffty athlon can run my 9800gt then the pentium can do it fine, whats the bottleneck?

also, after getting this next year i plan on finishing the upgrade.

pentium > core i5-2500k
9800gt > 660 ti
320GB HDD > 320GB + 1TB HDD
windows 8 > windows 7 + 8 dual boot(?)
1440x900 monitor > 1920x1080 asus monitorforgeter.

get the disc incase something goes wrong.
might buy a stack of burned dvds and hopefully burn one to a dvd.

As a heads up there is no such thing as ATI anymore it's only AMD.

Just get a jump drive that can hold the windows boot thing, they're super cheap. Also a lot more convenient than using dvds

problem is, if its any more expensive then the burned dvds then its not possible because im holding it really close.

if you mean flash drive it might be possible.

Yeah a flash drive is what a jump drive is

is also an option if i decide not to get the upgrade at all and attempt this next year.

if you're wondering why there's no gpu thats because i'd already have the 660ti long before this build.

Get a better motherboard, though its gonna add like 60 bucks to your price
