Author Topic: I thwarted a badly-designed virus.  (Read 846 times)

So my mom was looking for recipes last night. She says in the morning "Oh my god, all my desktop icons are gone!"

So I say, "Mom, I'll take care of it after school."

I come home and look at it. I notice that all the file folders are blank and the thing won't close itself out. I tried to task manager it, but it wouldn't let me open task manager.

So, I switched to my login to see if I could do task manager, and I could. So, I ended it. Then, I turned my attention to the file folders. First thing I did was check the properties. Oh, look at that, all the folders are set to read-only and hidden. So, what do I do? I unset them.

Then, I found the virus' folder and deleted it. Before I did that though, I set my antivirus to temporarily block all outgoing and ingoing connections. So far, it seems to have worked. Everything's back, the only aftereffect is that every desktop icon except recycle bin got knocked off my desktop. So, wish me luck that it doesn't come back :D

tl;dr If you're too lazy to read this, get the forget out of my topic.

*clapclapclap*

I've thwarted a virus without any programs once though, do I get any points?

reminds me of that one topic where some butthurt guy sent some file named happyvirus.zip or something to him

Well done, I hate viruses that block task manager, or regedit.

I made a topic about a virus last night, I ended up formatting my hard-drive. Consider yourself lucky. D:

That's no virus!

What we have here is a worm.

one thing I hate about shared computers is when a parent downloads a virus then blames you for screwing it up

that's why I have my own now.

Would renaming the task manager let you use it if a virus tries to hide it?

Would renaming the task manager let you use it if a virus tries to hide it?
just hit search in your task bar and look for taskmgr.exe :V

Also, rather off-topic, but with viruses,

I got a RAT from Anarchy Online. Don't DL it, bros.

That's no virus, that's a spaceship!
