Author Topic: Question about phones (specifically AT&T)  (Read 630 times)

I have a Samsung Impression with an AT&T plan.  I can't upgrade my phone at the AT&T store until January-ish.

If I buy a used iPhone 3GS, AT&T version, off ebay or amazon or from someone I know, can I slap in my SIM card and it would work?

Or would AT&T/the iPhone know about it and not let it happen?

Not sure about whether the 3gs uses micro-sim. This post assumes it doesn't.

I'm not sure about how it is over there, but over here it would work just fine, provided the phone isn't locked to another carrier.

It is an AT&T iPhone, however my current phone/SIM is AT&T.

I think the 3GS uses non-micro.  I pulled it out of my mom's iPhone once and it looked normal sized like my current phone and my old phone.

As I said, over here that would work fine but I have no idea about how it works in the US. We don't even have specific "tethering plans" or "smartphone plans" or anything.

My sister did that, she was forced to upgrade her dataplan.

I already have an unlimited data/text/minutes plan, so should I be in the clear?

Please for the love of God take mine unless you want it to go into a dump.  I'm so sick of it and how there are no good apps for it.

She had to get the iPhone data plan.  It's like $15 or $20 for 250MB or something like that.  If you're always on WiFi go with that.

That's ridiculous.

Sweet.  Lets hope on this.

Thanks for the replies all of you.
