Author Topic: ping  (Read 1178 times)

I was running a server on blockland the other day and i asked my friend if he wanted to join. He said "no theres no ping". I don't know what ping was and you guys are probaly gonna make fun of me and think im a noob and intimidate me. Ill admit im KINDA new to blockland but theres just a few things i dont know like this. So nobody be mean plz.

Anyhoo what is ping? plz tell me. :/

I think he accidently misspelled the name of a projectile called Pong. If it wasn't that, then i have no idea.

EDIT: Pong is default, btw.

Ping, is the number of milliseconds (1/1000 of a second) it takes to reach the server and back.
Having no ping (or "---" ping,) means you are using UPnP and the server cannot directly ping to those ports.

In the first place, this is an ambiguous topic title. Read the rules before posting.
(not that I did that when I was a noob ._.)

But still, ping...yeah...most of the time when there's no ping, you can't connect to servers.

Low ping (0-300) is good, high ping (~500+) is bad.

ok well how do you get ping?

If you have a functional internet connection, it can be pinged.

You have to forward your ports (28000 both UDP and TCP,) then make sure "Disable UPnP" is on in the Network options in Blockland.
Unless your modem supports UPnP natively.

What is UPnP and how does it work?

Is it better to run a server with UPnP enabled or disabled?

Lol, no, modems only pass traffic and don't care about what kind of traffic it is.

It's better disabled, but obviously only if you can run your server without it

I don't think you know exactly what he's referring to lol

The router, not the modem. Also, most routers support UPnP natively, but in some cases you have to explicitly enable it in your router control panel.

Reasonable, this helped me a tad bit, I didn't know ping was the miliseconds it took to connect, I thought it was just a rate of how laggy/ bad connection your server was, someone told me high ping is bad and low is good, that's it.
and about connecting it with KoopaScoopa's post, this really helps.
