Author Topic: My resolution is broke.  (Read 2504 times)

According to my settings, my monitor resolution is 1024 x 768 or something like that.
According to all recording, screenshots, etc taken in a fullscreen videogame end up in 800 x 600. What the hell is this?

What makes it worse that even making videos in the highest res possible still doesn't increase quality at all. If you watch it in 720p it still looks like stuff. I'll see if the one I'm uploading at 1080 looks any worse.

What kind of wizardry is this?

I'm pretty sure that when you full-screen a game it applies the game's resolution to your monitor; not the other way around.

That's strange, because all my settings state that the game is running in a 1024 x 768 res.

EDIT, even by closely looking at my monitor, the aspect ratio isn't right for 800 x 600.

Looks like watching it in fullscreen at 1080p "fixes" the problem

Is there something my video card is doing that's loving this stuff up?

Anyway.
Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.

They are.
I've made sure of this too.

That's because you're watching a 1280x720 video compressed down to 1024x768. Changing the resolution of a video's playback on YouTube doesn't magically increase your monitor's resolution, bro.

Also, step up to 1920x1080 next time you get a monitor.

I would, but my father's idea on technology is "as long as it works it's fine". So I'm stuck with an old CRT box.
Plus, a big monitor like that wouldn't fit on my desk.

Solution: get a hammer and bust some stuff. If you need a cover story, just say you fell face first into the glass which shattered on impact. make sure you say it was the glass that shattered, not your face.

How small is your desk? 1080p monitor's aren't that huge, bro. Well, unless you've got a midget desk.

Some games will refuse to be in funky resolutions like yours. My moniter has funkiresoitis aswell and FRAPS records in 800 x 600. Nothing you can do.

1024x768 isn't a funky resolution. It's quite standard for CRTs.

A 1080p monitor wouldn't fit without serious adjustments.

Yeah it's blurry, because it's just a quick ipod snapshot.
