Author Topic: Why do people like Captain America: The First Avenger so much?  (Read 4300 times)

Maybe there is a bias to like it just because its 'Captain America'. People can be that simple sometimes lol.

Thor was pretty cool cause it was Thor, simply.

I see what you mean, Sheath.

Well with the success of Batman, Spiderman, Ironman and Kickass there has been even more comic adaptations now.

Most of them are just cash cows because they know people will see it no matter what (Green Lantern).
Green Lantern sucked so hard, lol

They've been doing it for the past few years so that the storylines can converge together to make this.  I saw it coming when Thor came out.
Thor didn't come out "in the past few years". it was like April or something.

Oh and this stuff is coming too.

Yay, more nicholas cage bullstuff.
That doesn't look so bad.

I see what you mean, Sheath.
I didn't mean it like that. Chris Hemsworth did a good job and looked badass doing it, regardless of what stufffest of a comic they got the idea from.

People like it because everyone is going nostalgia crazy for 50's - 60's super heroes.

Except for superman, it's never superman.

That's because Superman had a few good movies in the late 90's. He started the craze I believe.

I asked my dad what he thought about the movie and he said it stunk.

Superman is the corniest superhero of them all though.

Really? I can't be the only one who liked Ghostrider. It was stupid, sure, but then, it was supposed to be.

People who expect too much from comicbook movies clearly have a bad understanding of what comicbooks are, or rather, what they used to be.

Remember Adam West's Batman? There was a time when that was actually pretty damn faithful to the original Batman comics.

People who expect too much from comicbook movies clearly have a bad understanding of what comicbooks are, or rather, what they used to be.

When I saw the recent Hulk movie I expected more than just two fight scenes and less uninteresting dialogue. When I saw Captain America I expected more national socialist beat downs and less "Do you... Fondue?" moments.

Ok, admittedly The Hulk movies were just disappointing in any light. The second one not as much as the first one, but still.

However, Captain America had it's badass moments, and all the other moments were spent as story builders. The first part shows how Steve is this perfect American patriot guy who was cool guy and not afraid of anything. Then the next part sets up that that guy who believed in him gets shot as well as so there can't be any more super soldiers and thus making Steve the last hope. The next parts are dumb comic relief that do little really but set up his costume, and finally it shows just how badass he is by going in to save all those people, becoming a solider for realsies, and eventually being the ultimate awesome by sacrificing himself for the good of his country. It's a very basic tale of the Hero's Journey, yadda yadda yadda.

To be very honest, these latest Marvel movies, Thor and the Cap have really just been feature length trailers for The Avengers. They knew they were making an Avengers movie, so they're like: "well stuff, Iron Man and the Hulk already have movies, maybe we should do these guys real quick first so we can establish an actor."

I haven't seen Green Lantern either but it looked so cheesy and awful and for some reason I'm used to a black Green Lantern like from the animated Justice League series.
This.

Thor was pretty well put out even it was a rushed out.
Huly was dissapointing.
Iron Man was wonderful. The first was pretty well made.
Captain America had some of its badass moments, but just didn't have the full "Captain America!" feel
