Author Topic: Help finding Headphones (R.I.P. - (Around) Four Year Old Earbuds)  (Read 1929 times)

A few years back, my brother let me have his earbuds after getting some other listening stuff. I've been using them for all these years. Well today, I noticed the right side wasn't working... I've just done more tests, and it is the "Only works in a VERY specific position" problem. This is a pronounced case, where if it isn't 100% perfect, it won't work, and as such these are not workable. A sad day. I was able to find them on the internet quite easily though, despite not knowing more than that I got them from my brother and the brand on the side. I plan to go out and find a new pair: http://www.usa.philips.com/c/headphones/shs3201_28/prd/en/

"Only works in a VERY specific position" problem.
I would think that means something is not connected right.
That, or a wire in the earbuds is not properly insulated and drops its current to something that is touching the uninsulated wire before it reaches the speakers.

The very specific position might move the wire off of the object that is touching the wire, allowing the wire to keep carrying the charge.
I recommend taking a look inside the earbuds and checking the wires that run from it. Might save you some money.

I messed with the inside. The problem seems to be there it splits into the left and right earhook. I adjust that part of the wire, and there's this pinpoint area I can't early replicate where it works. It's impossible to keep, opening up the split point is impossible without ruining it... Sad day.

Bones4 suggested this Skullcandy earbud to me, but I can't order online, so it'd be like $20. I'm not THAT into sound, but I need sound for some things, such as gaming obviously...

I can only used those types of earbuds that hang off your ear. Otherwise they fall out.

A few years ago, Phillips got relocated (yay Thailand) and started to make stufftier quality products. I'd suggest taking that as a note first.
Also, even though you're not interested in uber-phones, I wouldn't buy cheap stuff like gummys. they muffle sound.

happened to my old pair of these green jelly thingies or whatever

now i have to use these stuffty earbuds that came with my iphone.

Sometimes the problem lays in the audio device your using. An old 3.5mm jack might have stuff caught in it. take a Q-tip and try to fish stuff out.

I tried different ones on this computer, and my mother's laptop to be sure. It's the earhooks.

I got earbuds which matched my old ones. However, I discovered they were a much more inferior design of them under the same brand name. The hooks were smaller, the buds were slightly larger, and there was no static protection, unlike my old ones. (With the new ones, I could literally hear as I picked up my cat from the static.) The smaller hook and larger bud was a TERRIBLE idea on their part. My ears have been irritated by it, to the point I'd been trained by them to not get up for fear of pulling them out and putting them back in. An hour ago, I pulled them out and felt inside my left ear. It was bleeding. The damn things made it so raw, that began.

I'm fed up with earbuds. Would anyone know relatively cheap headphones with average quality and good sound leakage protection? I still use my computer from the living room for now, so I don't want them hearing me while I do things.

Dude. iPhone earbuds are loving great. They work great and I've never had any problems with how they feel or anything

I'd prefer headphones at this point. I'm tired of the inner ear irritation from the friction of them being in my ears.

then buy sennheisers
cheapest are 30, and they have a better build quality and sound than beats/skullcandy
