Author Topic: What if Badspot started selling 5 dollar full game trial keys?  (Read 4104 times)

Sounds exploitable.
trial key > re-enter another one
trial key > re-enter another one
trial key > re-enter another one
trial key > re-enter another one
trial key > re-enter another one
etc.. you get the point.. but you'd pay more than $20  :cookieMonster:

5 dollars is a quarter of the game, maybe the game would be 25% off when in the trial period?

Also, the Person would get a real ID, and then if he decides buy the game, the person gets to keep the ID. If said don't buy the game, the ID will be given to the next person who buys the game or trial.

I was under the thought they would not have a formal ID. Although now that I think about it, a huge portion of the game works via requiring a player specific ID. And you can't reuse trial IDs if they've been starfishs. The game would need a rebuild of itself and it's mods if we wanted to make room for a trial system.

This seems like a good idea, except it would seem to be hard to implement.

Giving away IDs in such a way is a terrible idea, especially for a trial user. They could be the biggest starfishs ever, and then the ID would be banned from servers when passed on. And you can't create a secondary ID system because of how everything in the game currently works. Most of the Add-Ons, as well as the game itself, would need an overhaul to accommodate it. It's more work than it's worth for people to experience how rude our community can be to new users.

Demo with multiplayer, but if the client has demo, they can still only have 150 bricks and will be kicked from the server after 5 minutes, and can only join 3 servers a day. Something like that

The game is literally built upon the ID system. If a person doesn't have a purchased ID, how will everything that work by identifying people by ID work? It hits the system at it's base, and everything above would need to be reworked for it.

What could happen as far as trial IDs:
If the ID system is String-based: T(# counting up from zero)
Real number: #.1
Integer: -#

It's not like Blockland has any good servers anymore anyway.

Most Add-Ons rely on IDs being all numbers. We can't pin "TRIAL" to it. They check specifically for number IDs. Most of the game would need to be rewritten.

The reason kids don't buy Blockland is because their parents don't trust buying things online. I doubt any money could be made on this.

Trial IDs could just be numbers starting at 1000000 :cookieMonster:

Yeah, Mega's right.

This would pose huge problems in the limitation of the IDs. Not only would passing the IDs on to someone else bring with them the burden of whatever previous user did with those IDs, but we'd also need to allocate a chunk of IDs to be used as trials. We'd have to have a certain amount to be used (and assuming it worked on the system of reusing) and reused which would either mean limited amount of IDs available at one time thus a waiting list, or completely screw up the counting system (as the IDs also tell Dadspot how many people have bought his game) that we have in place.

That's not essentially true with Club Penguin or Roblox.
