I keep hearing about Robotech and Macross. I hear one is an adaptation of the other, or one is a rip off, or that one Is a watered down version of another, which do you recommend?

I've only seen Macross, Robotech is the Westernized one.

Evangelion is awesome but it's not for everyone. Rebuild would have been more accessible, but 3.0 happened.
