They are just people so traumatized they snapped looking for a guardian to protect them, just because they go against the main characters doesn't make them bad characters, whereas Mikasa is there to move the plot along and be positive, but is just a bland perfectionist. Also she is muscly and muscly girls are gross.

Jean isn't a very good character but he does kinda have some emotion at least, and tried to lead people knowing he can die easily and manages to pull through seeing his comrades die better than most other soldiers.
I'm guessing that the girl you mean is the lesbian as forget one who is only really interested in Krista, in which case she still looks out for her and lesbians are hot so...
I don't know what's wrong with the drill instructor, you only saw him a few times and the scene with Sasha was lols.
