the higurashi anime looks kind of bad but I've only watched one death scene and VN adaptions usually suck anyway

It really all depends on what you like and what your standards are.

I, personally, liked the entire transition from cutesy slice of life to absolute death and found the anime quite enjoyable. Also, it's OST arouses my ears.

Now I'm not going to go out of my way to try and convince you to love it or anything, and I'm not suggesting you feel the opposite, but I'd watch up to episode four at least until you make a verdict on whether it's good or bad.
