Attack on Titan is still a great show though, not the best but still very entertaining imo.

Sidonia actually feels a bit like it. It's got a similar oppressive atmosphere...but it's in space.

It has fewer shonen elements, a bit more on the drama side since it's a mech show.

I don't understand why anytime anything ever gets popular/mainstream (music, anime, ect.) it immediately starts getting a stuff ton of criticism. If something becomes popular usually it's because of the fact that it's good.

let me rephrase:
There is always a good reason why something is popular.
It appeals to a large variety of people for whatever reasons (a song with a catchy beat, or an anime with sweet action scenes) whatever it is there is always a reason. Saying "this anime is terrible why is it popular" is 100% of the time false. It can most definitely have flaws but if it's gotten to the "mainstream" point there absolutely has to be some positive assets to it.

People just don't like things being overrated. Say people were all saying klk was the best anime ever made and that nothing else could even compare to it, but you see it as just an average show, then the people who feel that way devalue it because they don't think it's worth all the recognition.
Then there just people who want to bash stuff everyone likes *cough* Dexxtter *cough* I mean not liking Cowboy Bebop and GITS? BS you gotta have some ulterior motive or something.
