I'd recommend Fullmetal Alchemist, then watch Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood.
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet is another good one if you like sci-fi stories.

My recommendation would be to watch the first episode of anything that sounds interesting or catches your fancy. If you don't like it by the second or third episode then don't worry about it (I know some people will disagree with me though)
