i've shown friends that have never watched "that weird japanese stuff" before and they love opm

it's pretty different from what a lot of people see as anime
A. it's a parody of all the superhero shows people have seen in the past
B. there has been a huge lack of big busted, technicolor hair, high pitched females
C. it's hype
D. it's action
E. it's funny
F. the music is kickass

well fubuki and tatsumaki fit in some of those categories (though they haven't had that much screentime yet)

are girls just portrayed so stufftily in anime that not having them makes it easier to fit into the gateway category

more often than not? yes.

like it's really, really sad.
more often than not the better portrayed ones are on (good) romcoms, which i haven't really found any I'd consider a gateway anime
