Author Topic: Cordyceps Fungi  (Read 1370 times)

that's really all that needs to be said about this, but I'll go on anyway
cordyceps are a parasitic fungus that obviously likes to grow on insects and arthropods
this stuff is expensive, yo; "mushroom hunters in Nepal can earn 900 dollars for an ounce of cordyceps"
it's used in an immunosupressive drug called ciclosporin, used for organ transplants sometimes
some species can affect their host's behavior, e.g. making ants climb a plant before attaching themselves to it, so as to increase the efficiency of the spores

Can't this fungi, in Lehman's terms, zombify ants and other insects?

it's not all that terrifying when you remember how small an ant is ...

This.

How do you collect it?

It's on ants, that's extremely tiny.

What a stuffty way to die

It's on ants, that's extremely tiny.

yeah but you'd think there would be some sort of source plant .. I mean the infected ants get infected via spores if I understand this correctly. spores have to come from somewhere originally right?

maybe not. that would make collection difficult if it actually was only from small sources.

they are pretty small sometimes, but it's still noticeable

sometimes they're not all that small though

I imagine that's a little different species than what grows on bugs though

HOLLY stuff.

ZOMBIE ANTS

ODD FUNGI IS ODD.

Doesn't a form of it grow on Humans too?
