Author Topic: Can anyone give me a port forwarding tutorial?  (Read 809 times)

I know about Badspot's, but when I use his, it never seems to work and my internet stops working, so if anyone would be able to provide one for me. In addition, UPnP doesn't let the majority of people join my server. All I see are connection requests in my console all the time.

What router do you have?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I just tested my ports using a tool. It said my TCP was open, but my UDP wasn't. Is this a problem?

I'm not aware of it being a problem.
I'm also 90% sure that udp can't be tested without a program running ???

I got this program off that website there, it says that then it says some solution for that, I don't really think ti matters if it's not a problem though.

blockland requires TCP and UDP open im pretty sure

Nope, only required UDP.

However:
1. The UPnP built into Blockland is set to forward both
2. Remote control uses TCP on the server's port

okay then

did it used to require both before Blockland could use UPnP? i feel like it did, but i may be wrong.

Well, people just connected to my server fine, and the program I used said my UDP couldn't be connected to, and hardly any people at all can connect when I use UPnP. Plus, I heard port forwarding is less laggy.

Woops, completely wrong:
libminiupnpc   28000   28000   192.168.1.3   UDP

Statement 2 still remains, of course.

and the program I used said my UDP couldn't be connected to,
Yeah, no, what program is this? UDP doesn't really function that way since it is connectionless.

Plus, I heard port forwarding is less laggy.
Won't make a difference as long as the server can be connected to.

Most online port checks assume that you already have an application (such as your game or torrent) listening for the port test on your computer, and then assume that the test was OK simply because they were able to connect to your computer.

Also, web only port checkers are not able to test UDP since UDP is a connectionless protocol and there is no way to know if the packet actually made it to your computer without some sort of program on your computer waiting for that packet.

Our port test uses a local application to listen for the server trying to connect and the positively verifies that your port is forwarded.

Remember to disable blocklands UpNp
