Author Topic: Breaking the boundaries of social tradition one barrel roll at a time.  (Read 749 times)

On the way back from the Miracle Mile Deli in Phoenix Arizona, I had a casual conversation with my mother while driving down a small avenue about a half mile from my house.

There were basically no vehicles around but us, and the asphalt seemed fairly dry, so I was weighing the positives and negatives of doing a barrel roll out of the moving car. I asked my mom if I could do it, seeing as I'm wearing a fairly protective long sleeve shirt and my hair probably provides enough protection to stop most of the skin on my scalp being torn off. She said no.

Considering the following criteria of when it's okay to jump out of a car fit:
  • Car going less than 20 mph
  • No other vehicles around
  • Have clothing on

I was wondering why it isn't considered proper to jump out. I was within walking distance of my house, so time isn't an issue. I guess it sort of ties in with mob mentality and the fact that every so often a group of people in a community decide to do something and it suddenly becomes a tradition. That tradition then gets even more widespread and suddenly all of civilized humanity takes part. It makes you wonder how much do we do that actually has no positive or negative weigh on anyone else, but everyone does it?

There's a limit between things that are perceived as good and things that are perceived as bad, but there must be some miniscule twilight zone between what will get you praised and what will get you thrown in jail that you can take part in without any negative repercussions from the police force.

Someone should write a book filled with tons of activities you can do to help maintain your originality.

Anyway, comment on things you can take part in that fit what I'm saying and reasons why I shouldn't jump out of a moving car (Besides getting injured).

That's a major reason.
I fit the criteria so I wouldn't get injured.

That or the injuries would be so minor that I wouldn't care.

Any other reasons?

I guess the social stigma of "oh your son jumped out of the car what's wrong with him".

Things are far much more fragile than we sometimes make them out to be. Namely your body.

Yes but that plays into what I said earlier that you're perceived as sick because you did something different.

You asked your mom if you could jump out of the car and do a loving barrel roll on loving asphalt at twenty loving miles per hour.

She must be crazy not to let you have done it.

tl;dr, please.

I got fidgety and only skimmed through some of it.

tl;dr I wanted to jump out of the car but my mom wouldn't let me, tell me why.

I clicked because I thought there would be a funny video.
