This forum seems to be lacking in any information involving fungus. So we need a thread about it. Time for random information!

The common Enoki mushroom. A bland little thing, but it has a hidden ability. It can
greatly decrease the chances of of one developing cancer. This was discovered because the region in Japan in which the majority of these mushrooms are grown has very low levels of cancer. So people got interested and they discovered it was because of these mushrooms.

The psathyrella aquatica. This was mentioned in an "interesting facts" thread but I didn't go into much detail. So this is the only known gilled mushroom that grows underwater. When it was first discovered it was not taken seriously because everybody thought that it was simply a mushroom growing on a stick that had fallen into the water. After finding many more specimens it was determined it's own species. It's spores are floated downriver in the bubbles that for underneath it.

The giant puffball mushroom. This mushroom is not very special, but it's fun to put hats on. Quite often larger specimens are confused for sheep lying down.

The amanita muscaria. What I believe to be the mushroom depicted in Mario games. It is a common hallucinogen and some of the effects described include thinking you are much larger or much smaller than you actually are. Similar to the effects Mario undergoes. So he's addicted to drugs. We all knew that, but know we know which one.

This is a brown mushroom. It is found growing on grass, in caves, on mycelium and very rarely on leaves. It can be combined with red mushrooms and bowls to make mushroom stew.
see? Mushrooms are cool.
