I kinda hope the stick just gets bigger and it never makes sense
In the CoroCoro spread with the Fennekin Evolution there's a small picture of an in-game battle that makes it appear as if the Pokemon is holding the stick while it's on fire to use as a weapon.
That could fit into the suggestion that the starters are based on RPG classes, and Fennekin is the Mage class, and that stik is it's wand.
There is a new English Pokemon Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XihYTNWLFJwIt reveals the English names of the evolved starters and others.
Chespin becomes
Quilladin (Quite possibly a mixture of Quill and Paladin, referencing RPG theme)
Fennekin becomes
Braixen (The video also shows Braixen using the stick as a weapon, like a wand)
Froakie becomes
Frogadier The Rock/Dragon T-Rex Fossil pokemon is
Tyrunt (Obviously a mix of Tyrant and Runt, with Tyrant coming from Tyrannosaurus)
The Rock/Ice type Fossil pokemon is
Amaura The White Pokemon whose fur can be changed is
Furfrou, and appears to be based on a poodle.
It's shape of fur seems to be changable on it's head, body, ears, tail and legs. The colour can be changed atleast on it's forehead, ears, legs and tail, but it's not shown if the rest can be changed, or if a mixture of colours can be chosen.
The two Blue/White cat Pokemon, who have differing Gender Appearances are
MeowsticPyroar is shown, and it too has a Gender Difference. The female is most definitely based off of a Lioness, and it has no mane, but a long firey streak of hair from it's head. It's body is also thinner, much like a Lioness.
MegaGarchomp is shown, alongwith the MegaEvolution Animation, which consists of the player character pressing a button on their wrist device, which triggers the evolution.
MegaMewtwo X is also shown MegaEvolving, and a comparison between it and
MegaMewtwo Y is shown.
The Trailer also shows how the player characters can customise their appearance, and shows a few costumes or selections of clothing.
