I was chaining crogunk and got up to 40. I reset the pokeradar a few times and saw a shiny patch, but it was right next to a normal patch (vertically) and it was hard to tell which to choose. I chose wrong, but it was still a crogunk, making my chain a 41. But now I've been resetting the pokeradar for a while and o haven't seen anything. Did I reset my chances when I chose the normal patch or can I just keep trying?

Edit: about 5 minutes after posting this I encountered and captured a shiny :D
It was even holding some black sludge. So now is the shiny rate reset? The chain music was still playing after I caught it, does that mean I can try for more?

You should be able to keep trying.

Chaining after 40 doesn't increase or decrease your chance of encountering a shiny.
