Honestly, the man did it just so that he could watch the cat suffer. There is no reason why he would do it, on video, in the manner he did besides for some twisted form of entertainment. It would be just as wrong if he executed it, no pun intended, the same way but with a mouse instead. And the fact it was so young makes it even worse, aside from the unconventional nature of this all.
