Author Topic: What makes applications such as Blockland run faster?  (Read 885 times)

I'm good with computers, just not with the hardware and parts and things that are actually physical. All I know how to do is change hard drives, but anyway, I wanted to ask a question: What is it that makes games run faster? I can't even run CS:S default maps above, like, 3 fps. And builds above 7k bricks lag me a lot. What makes a fast computer, the video card, the processor, memory, what? My father tells me he will buy a new computer since this one is years old and has been through so much abuse, with the numerous restorations and the many times its fallen, along with the computer shutting off when I insert something in the front USB ports.

I haven't worked on a computer in ages. Mostly cuz this laptop kicks ass.

after a certain point the GPU wont really matter for most Source games and Blockland
not that that's a problem

Graphics card effects games the most, but the CPU is also has a very important role in it as well.
What CPU do you have and how much RAM?

gpu is one of the most important if not most important part of a gaming computer

Anyway, a good CPU and GPU are vital.
The CPU is like the brain of the computer. The GPU is the video card and renders all 3d and 2d environments so therefore a more powerful GPU = more FPS in games.
If you overpower GPU and have a bad CPU, then you will experience bottlenecking where you hit a limit of the throughput that your CPU can handle.

I'm just getting rid of this bad computer since buying an entirely new one would be a lot easier than buying parts that might not even be compatible.

So long as you have a PCI-E port you're good to go for a video card.
