DUBLIN -- One of the zany experiments staged by the "Mythbusters" television show nearly turned into a suburban tragedy Tuesday afternoon in Dublin when the crew fired a homemade cannon toward huge containers of water at the Alameda County Sheriff's Department bomb disposal range.

The cantaloupe-sized cannonball missed the water, tore through a cinder-block wall, skipped off a hillside and flew some 700 yards east, right into the Tassajara Creek neighborhood, where children were returning home from school at 4:15 p.m., authorities said.

Good thing nobody was hurt, I wonder how the Mythbusters will take this.

wowee they did it on purpose to get attention shut their show down!

With all the stuff they do on the show, it was bound to happen eventually.

If I were one of them there, I'd simply lay on the floor with my arms out, legs out, and go "I'm unarmed, take me to jail. No need for a trial with this."

Does this show even still make any new episodes?

and you would thusly be labeled as a dumbass

No dude, they spent the leftover money in a futile attempt at blowing up children.

For admitting pure stupidity upfront instead of arguing it and only enforcing the fact?

this doesent seem possible

There, the 6-inch projectile bounced in front of a home on quiet Cassata Place, ripped through the front door, raced up the stairs and blasted through a bedroom, where a man, woman and child slept through it all - only awakening because of plaster dust.

The ball wasn't done bouncing.

It exited the house, leaving a perfectly round hole in the stucco, crossed six-lane Tassajara Road, took out several tiles from the roof of a home on Bellevue Circle and finally slammed into the Gill family's beige Toyota Sienna minivan in a driveway on Springvale Drive.

Is there a video of this incident, I would love to see it.

Possibly in the episode if they play this off correctly, although surely they'd edit it.

I can bounce a bowling ball.

I don't know how they do law wherever you live, but doing that here would be as stupid as stealing drug money from a gang and saying "there's no point in trying to escape, I stole your money, kill me now"

You almost killed children, and in your profession, it could easily become actuality. Death sentence, I'm not killing anyone. Not like that.

But no one was hurt and they are on generally good terms with authorities in the area...?

There is another article that says they apologized and took everything very seriously. They have insurance, I'm sure, so the damages will be covered. :o
