As I'm reading this I keep looking over at your avatar.

Learn java

open notepad and paint.net

make millions

Assuming you mean gears of war, why not use udk seeing as thats pretty much what they used?

I was thinking about it. I wasn't sure if there would be an easier method, or if it is the easier method.

Love2D is a LUA library. GameMaker is a piece of garbage.

Ok, sounds good.

If you hate getting paid for wasting your time coding nerdy little apps then use some of the stuffty not-Flash software suggested above.

Flash isn't going to accomplish what I want it to.

I recommend XNA over Love2D. It can do 2D and you'll learn some C+ which can also be used in 3D XNA.

I had one other idea I was already planning on using XNA for (hence why I tried to learn it in the first place), but I wasn't sure if it'd be easier to do this first 2d idea with.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the help,

Try learning some C# or C++ with OpenGL or DirectX.

flash and java is where the money is at

Java.
Lua.

Do what badspot did.
Make an awesome game, sell it, then setup a forum.

Without the entire place becoming like this one.

Especially java.

I mean stuff, I could name several devs that got rich off of java games that are stuffty compared to other games

flash and java is where the money is at

While it would be a good idea to learn flash and java, I don't think either will let me accomplish what I'm wanting.

This semester I took a class in CS and there is no way I could make a living in it. It's more of a hobby I'd like to get into. If I decide I like it more after that, then I'll possibly invest in those languages.

Anyway, my plans right now are to look into XNA and UDK as well as Love2D. Thanks for the help.

I use Love2D for 2D games, and XNA for 3D.
He doesn't want to use those silly engines.
edit: no wait, he does, but he shouldn't

Err, XNA is just a .NET wrapper for DirectX.
