love that movie
I was trying to make you ashamed of the USSR.  It obviously didn't work.
They fail at submarines.

The submarine wasn't a fail, there was a radiation leak or something. Could've happened to anyone.

Getting link.  You just reminded me of this epic subversion scene.

Yeah, as well as not having radiation medicine, or radiation suits. There's also the small matter of the commesar (or however it's spelled) and an officer holding a small coup. lol

Anyways coal miners have to stay in one of the many mines for a month. Happy trails.

Did they even have medicine for radiation in 1959?

They could treat it so the men didn't die of the radiation, yes.

The old leader dies and through inception his son decides that he does not want to follow in his father's footsteps.  There was a financial decline and he quickly assesses the problem.

The 3 men quickly realize they aren't going home. They slide the door open and observe the ground, going past them at 40 MPH. The all roll out, one-by-one. 2 are ok and have minor scratches. The other breaks both of his legs. "ag! Kazhet·sya, ya slomal nogi grebanyĭ!" The man shouts. 2 border guards notice him.

"Mhmmk, you know the rest lads"
"Uh, battle-report sir."
"Okay, more of this partisan bollocks? Gimme the news."
"We gunned down three blokes this evening. Pretty defenseless, but you know the rules. Anyone not in a train near the border will be shot on site."
"Anything else?"
"Yeah, we found some revolver rifles behind them
"Poor chaps would've lived they had'em."

Avalonian civilian planes (a few wealthy Avalonians have them) fly over various other countries' airspace funded by an Avalonian charity organization dedicated to feeding the world. The Avalonian government requests that nobody try to shoot them down, but has also warned the pilots of the inherent risk.

"Some of the most serious nuclear and radiation accidents in the world have involved Soviet nuclear submarine mishaps." -Wikipedia (in which we all have profound trust)
