This line is found in the book Macbeth Act V, Scene V
Where Macbeth just heard that his wife committed Self Delete.
Im writing an essay on how the poem "Out, out" is an allusion to Macbeth
I understand that "brief candle" means that Lady Macbeth's life was short but what does the "Out, out" mean?


Life  is a flame. Out went the flame. Out went her life.

Repitition is used to signify a strong meaning in something. It's used to make a single word stronger in it's meaning. "Out, out" means it meant dearly to him.
