Author Topic: Christianity for kids? (THIS SITE IS NOT SERIOUS}  (Read 7938 times)

Quote from: http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistry101/a/lawtheory.htm
A law generalizes a body of observations. At the time it is made, no exceptions have been found to a law. Scientific laws explain things, but they do not describe them. One way to tell a law and a theory apart is to ask if the description gives you a means to explain 'why'.

Example: Consider Newton's Law of Gravity. Newton could use this law to predict the behavior of a dropped object, but he couldn't explain why it happened.

Gravity is a law. Anything that attempts to explain gravity is a theory.

It says the same thing in my teacher's edition chemistry textbook, but it currently resides in my school locker so I cannot quote it.

I'm just saying what I would do, I said absolutely nothing about other atheists.
This is the most pathetic attempt to back out of saying something completely handicapped.

I don't believe they all are. Greek mythology, yes. Christianity? Judaism? Islam? no.
What do you mean no? Christianity proposes a "theory" of creation and how things came to be, which is something we're yet to fully explain.

The reason Religion doesn't die, nor do some other beliefs die is because people believe whatever they want. All factions/beliefs have their corrupt sections and agendas deep down. Unless you begin to dwell on the belief that there isn't evil in the world, then you should see clearly that humans do not ever come to permanent peace loving civilizations. There is no room for a Utopia.

actually Judaism was mostly about explaining things.

Christianity took a huge jump forward as instead a tool for kings to control nations.

easier to convince peasants to fight for you if you pretend that God told you to

well I'm a healing minister* so I can handle atheists!

Okay, I see where they're coming from, but this takes it to such an extreme that it makes Christians look like cigarettes.

* I seriously am
That's the point.

This is the most pathetic attempt to back out of saying something completely handicapped.
well sorry if I apparently offended you by saying what I would do..

by no, I mean I do not believe that all it is, is a made up story to explain the unexplainable.

A religion cannot be considered a scientific guess at all. It isn't a law because it definitely tries to answer whys. It cannot be a theory because there is evidence against it and it is not something which can be tested. And if you're going to call it a hypothesis it is probably the weakest hypothesis you could make.

But that doesn't mean there's no good arguments from both sides.
I've watched/read many pro-religion videos/articles and I have never heard/seen any good, and the only arguments that could be called good, or even ok, are arguments addressing the holes in the theories that science already admits are there and is attempting to figure out

I personally wouldn't consider either of those theories. As neither of them are really testable, or at least not effectively testable.
Either of which?
Also most of religion's hypothesis are untestable as well, and of the ones that are testable, I can't think of one that hasn't been proven false.

The reason Religion doesn't die
is because people teach them to scientifically uneducated people, such as children before they are taught science, and then it targets their fears in ways that make them unwilling to stop believing. And then the pass them down to their children and it continues.
At least the religions that I think of when I hear the word 'religion'

a made up story to explain the unexplainable.
and a way to make people behave, out of fear of eternal torture

well sorry if I apparently offended you by saying what I would do..
You said that if you were an atheist you would believe in the big bang and evolution, but those are silly ideas and that's why you're not an atheist.
You can be an atheist without believing in either of those things you loving nimrod.

big bang has data to back it up. that is why it is a "theory" not proven, just data to back it up.

while god is still just in "hypothesis" mode, and likely always will be unless the rapture happens or something. rainbows and lightning strikes arent proof of god anymore, so they cant use that.

I believe there was a big bang, but the idea of anything coming from nothing is just absurd.

im atheist but i dont believe in evolution. i believe its possible and probably did happen to plants and animals. but people? aliens put us here :D

They don't actually say it came from nothing. They have no idea what it came from, that's the point.
