Chief was an actual manufactured Master Chief dress-up costume, I believe.
The muzzle flashing is not quite the most important aspect of the film and to myself, wasn't even something that I focussed upon. I would only notice the quality of it compared to other films if I went back and looked for it, due to you pointing it out.
Scorpion was likely another party-style costume. It, alongside Master Chief would look cheap, since they're both made in a factory to be produced at a cheap cost and delivered to lots of stores and people. I don't think this film was very high-budget, so they weren't likely to spend a lot of time and money on making their own perfect costumes for characters that are shown for about 3 minutes.

While the chainsaw thing is true, I do believe it was in a way, parodying the use of the chainsaws in GoW to get through obstacles, which for example, it takes a lot of time to put the chainsaw through some very thin skin-mesh inside a worm. If not that, then it's there for keeping that shot there for longer to entertain.
It's not like L4D is that realistic concerning the smoker tongues when all it takes is a light butting from a gun to get one off. If it took that little effort, then no one would ever be tangled by them.

Only the witch part do I find to be of significance, mainly since I myself thought it unusual that they wouldn't know a witch when they hear one, particularly considering Bill is already dead. When I saw the witch, I first thought "They've met witches before. The opening cinematic to L4D even shows Bill finding one."

ah that explains why it took so long to saw through the tounge. it was a cheap clip, it wasnt very good. it lacks very much in quality. also does francis even smoke?

they seriously forgeted it up with the crossovers. they should have gone with the "this is added story that wasn't in the game" type of deal, not "well. they are clueless, bill is dead, but we have all these other loving characters so here, jizz." i'm not a valve elietist, i'm not a pc gamer, i have an xbox and i use it more than i do the computer. the thing is, those other characters have absolutely no reason to be with them, neither does it do it in a humorous fashion. if it was funny then it would work, but they played it off too seriously. if anything it should take a more red vs. blueish approach and just make the whole thing silly.

>master chief shows up
>"oh god no this was horrible i don't care"
haha you're all stupid mondays

exactly my point lol

Looks cheesy, but still neat.

I don't think they were playing it off as serious as you make it sounds.
It seems to me more like it was just an excuse to be a little bit silly, include some well-known videogame characters and make it look really action-ey.

I actually laughed when Master Chief saved Louis.
And I did again when Fenix and Anya came in.

It just seemed to me like an excuse to put in a bunch of action-style characters into a warzone from different games. Which I enjoyed. I would have enjoyed the RvB style to it, but I quite liked the serious undertone to begin with being met by the not-so-serious inclusion of action-characters.

^agreed. it's like none of you have heard of a parody. really, for your own sake, don't watch stephen colbert, you'll explode with autistic misunderstood anger.

it wasn't funny, the people didn't react at all. the other characters might as well been generic survivor characters judging by the way they acted toward each other.

Except colbert is campy, not serious.
This is like a bad fanfiction that's trying to be good.

I'll probably sound like I'm just coming up with excuses, but it's not the sort of thing that you're watching it as if it's a sitcom.
It's a parody. Only you notice the funny. The characters in there continue as per normal.

For example, films like The Naked Gun or Airplane would be rubbish if all the characters realised that the jokes were unrealistic or over-the-top fake.

i don't think there was any hint of actual seriousness in it

just because it doesnt try to be serious doesnt mean it cant be stuffty
