That never really did anything?
Yeah now the sun is pissed and decided to fling the worst solar flare at us in recorded history.
So I suggest you shut down your PC and whatevers then to stop your stuff from being forgeted over.

I remember when we studied coronal mass ejection in class everybody snickered.

I don't think it's gonna do anything major, I remember in the old topic someone said that the worst solar flare in history was like 80 years ago and blew out some power lines. We've had alot of technichal advancements since then. Lemme see if I can dig that up.

Also it's a glancing blow, which should drastically lessen the effects.

The technical madvancements are the point.
If we lost power 80 years ago we wouldn't really give a stuff.
If we do now, we are all forgeted over 5 times.

Protection hasn't increased either.

Really? My house is covered with 'em. My house is so well protected, neither snow nor sleet or flood or flare or hurricane or tornado or earthquake or anything else Mother Earth can throw at it could get through!
