Author Topic: The perfect fortwars server - Let's try and make one, eh?  (Read 1210 times)

What fortwars is:
Players build forts, and defend their forts and attack others. People often gang together, too.

The problem:
People use JVS to restrict their doors, so people can't get in, completley negating the need for a proper defence, resulting in a sniping match or midfeild skirmishes. There isn't a proper objective, either.

The solution:
Not removing events, and not removing JVS. Using salvage is good, but some people would prefer not to. This is why I ask you: How can we fix this horrible flaw in such a great game? My potential idea is that people need a "control point" - People need to get to this and destroy it somehow. Once it's destroyed, ownership of the fort must go to the guys who captured it. A problem with this is that people will just rebuild their forts endlessley after losing it - So I guess a rule can be made where you can't remake it, you have to take it back - Thus making multiple forts with friends inside an important thing. Or just have a "neutral" fort where you can resupply and try to take it back.

Any better ideas?

Enable brick damage, disable VCE... that should balance it out.

there's an addon that opens ANY JVS door.

A specail "key" item that opens any door would probably help.

I used to host fortwars, but then I took an arrow to the knee but then people stopped coming

It was the lockpick

How about everything default except for weapons?

What I have always wanted from a Fortwars server is a quick and easy skeleton of a simple base. If the host has and provides a choice between 5 - 10 basic base models for the player to start from, fortwar servers would go a-lot smoother.

Building forts from scratch as people shoot at you from their fully built forts is annoying.

To fix your problem, you could just prohibit fully built forts to have locked/restricted doors. I say 'fully built' because, again, its annoying being shot at when building.

disable the ability to make bricks indestructible, make an axe that can chop down jvs doors

>metal vault door
>break down with axe

A lockpick wouldn't be ideal - People still need spawnrooms.

Brick damage can be countered with events (I've done it myself - Onblownup > self > respawn)So I guess not. but disabling VCE is also a good idea, you don't want to know how many people will event a gun that shoots rocket launchers at minigun speed.

And nobody, I suppose we could have a "builder" mode - You can't be killed or kill anyone in this mode - Once your base is built and approved, you Self Delete and respawn in your base.

Here's an idea, not sure if possible.

Make it so when people equip the brick tool, they'll invincible. They can't be killed. But, they cannot switch to weapons or tools until they remove it causing maybe 1 or 2 second delay in equipping an item. Then they'll revert to their mortal forms and die.

You should probably disable events all together. Otherwise, people will make deathtraps.

That would make running away too easy. You're about to die in the middle of combat, and you could just pull out your brick tool and escape with no problem.
