Author Topic: Opinions on Factory Farming  (Read 1044 times)

You know, the style of farming that sacrifices ethics for efficiency. What do you people think of it?

Its harsh but all people care about is money,so, it will probably just get worse.

Like GEMs?

I think they're fine. Gets food out to those who need it.

If people don't like how their food is made they can not eat it, I'm fine with it though i do prefer farm foods, but that's probably got a lot to do with where i live. Probably couldn't get as much fresh and non-induced foods in the city.

you want food? you've got it. the bottom line is that this is the only way to effectively farm foods without using more land than we already are. if we remove factory farms and use large plots of feilds, we might just see yellowstone national beef co. on our steak at chili's.

It's cruel to animals however we don't really have an alternative to feed all the masses at the moment.

Theres no such thing as cruelty to animals you are going to eat. The Factory Farming method is the best efficient way of harvesting dairy meats and other animal product as well as keeping animals in a closed environment and breeding.

It's kind of gross how they sometimes put them in a room and squish them in the ceiling, but you're eating them so it's fine.

It's really forgeted up. They should at least have a good life before they are killed :(
It's animal cruelty, really.

Mass production of food? Sure.

forget ethics, we have a dying planet

Factory farming for dummies:

  • Get a chicken
  • Put it on conveyor belt
  • Conveyor belt brings it to machine that tears off all of its feathers
  • then chicken is hung up on conveyor belt in air with other featherless chickens
  • chickens are then brought to machinces that tear off beaks and feet
  • beakless featherless (dead) chickens are then brought to machine that takes all of the good meat off them
  • whats left is bones and some leftover meats
  • piles of bones and meat are then transported to a machine that grinds them into a pink paste
  • pink paste is balled into nugget form and then fried
  • ....
  • profit for mcdonalds.

They're animals.
They are products.
They are bred to be food.
They are not bred to live happy lives.

Animals which have been domesticated for food do not have rights, there is nothing wrong with some dudes at a factory grinding them into a thick pink paste, I don't care as long as it tastes good enough to eat

Whether we raise the animals in an open range or factory, the goal of their life is to be killed. Gain as much mass as possible, then die.

It's really forgeted up. They should at least have a good life before they are killed :(
It's animal cruelty, really.

There is no way they could live a happy life while still maintaining that goal. Though you could always trick the animals. Befriend them, like you would a cat or dog. Name a few. Spend time with them. But at the end of the day, you'd still kill them. If the "cruelty" is an issue, then which would you rather have on your plate, your friend or meat.

I think the argument that open range animals taste better is false. There not enough of a difference to the average consumer for it to even count. Why waste money trying to provide something most don't notice?

If you don't like it, go vegan. I have quite a few friends who are. You might be saying, "Thorax, that won't stop factory farming unless everyone is a vegan and we don't need the farms anymore, which will never happen." You'd be right. The whole planet will not all become vegans. I love meat too much. However, if a large chunk of society became vegan, then the demand for meat would decrease, meaning that we'd need less factories.

And as a final thought, factory farms do a better job of not "wasting" animal parts. So if anything, their treating the animals better in death than a lot of regular farms by using the whole animal.
