Author Topic: Your feelings on AI  (Read 1974 times)

Technology is advancing at an extreme rate currently, and a good part of that advancement has been AI technologies. When I say AI, I don't mean the kind of AI you find in games like bots or computer players. When I say AI, I mean bots or other artificial entities that can mimic human brain function or have greater or equal capacity then one. With greater thought capabilities comes sentience- If a being can think for itself, what risk does it pose? Should there be laws in place that prevent AI from doing certain things or thinking certain things? Should there be a limit on development? Should super advanced AI even be allowed to come into existence? There are many, many arguments for both sides , for  AI and for not. There are great disadvantages and advantages. What's your opinion?

where's that latest video of Honda's ASIMO robot

Of course ai won't be able to over throw us. Why would we let them do anything like that.

I don't think asking nicely is part of overthrowing society.

They put that wall in front of it after it fell so nobody would see the midget getting out and running backstage

Unless some handicap decides to create a sentient AI WITHOUT adding fundamental laws into it's programming we'll be fine.
You know what I mean, the three laws you see in films and such;

1: You must not allow any humans to come to harm.
2: You must protect yourself from harm so long as it does not conflict with the first law.
3: You must obey the orders of humans so long as they do not tell you to act against the first and second laws

We saw how that turned out in I, Robot
/sarcasm

There are many different factors that this will depend on. If you believe in an evolutionary basis, there should be no doubt in your mind that AI can become super intelligent after a long time like a human. If you are religious you would pretty much trash the thought. I'm not trying to spark an argument here, I'm just pointing out two different world views.

Knowing human nature, everything will go to stuff

loving love robots would be the stuff, you couldn't even get AIDS from them.
