Author Topic: How many teachers are in an average school in America?  (Read 613 times)

I've decided to write a paper on education reform and I need to know. I also need a source. Thanks.

I would assume a teacher per subject, and depending on the number of subjects taught equals the number of teachers (though perhaps some teachers teach multiple subjects).
I never went to any schools of the sort so I have no idea really.

It depends on what sort of school you're talking about the number of students at the school.

U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics says the average national student to teacher ratio is 15.38 students to every teacher.

If you need the source for a citation, the source is the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, Common Core of Data (CCD), "State Nonfiscal Public Elementary/Secondary Education Survey", 2009-10, v.1b.

If the average school has 750 students, it will have 50 teachers.

K, so there is an average of 1619 students in each school so that comes out to...

~105.27 teachers? really? over one hundred? Does this sound right to those who attend public school?

Is College included in the Department of Educations official statement?

Sounds about right to me. My school has ~1700 students.

I have about 38 teachers in my school. (My school is Pre-K and 1-8 grade), and there are about 500 students.

~13.16 students for each teacher. Pretty close to Wedge's answer.
