well this sorta is about a game but w/e

anyway

After buying my $180 graphics card for christmas (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161377) (it was $180 before)

And when i play terraria in fullscreen (1680x1050) I get 10 fps, while in 800x600 i get a good 40.

does terraria use opengl for rendering? amd is absolute and complete stuff at supporting opengl because they are bad people

Terraria uses Direct3D

Change the lightning by pressing F9, changing to the worst one fixed my fps problems.

Even Macs can handle 2d.

Your GPU is being wasted by your crap CPU. I would imagine it's causing a lot of bottlenecking.

If it's an intel newer cpu it should be fine.

No piece of garbage runs Terraria at 40 fps with a 6800 series. It's probably a pentium.

I always play Terraria in 800x600. Man up.

I got the AMD Radeon HD 5570 at 1600x900 and I can run at a full 60fps. Hmmm
