Author Topic: Fallout 3 Not working?  (Read 966 times)

So, I have Windows 7 and I'm on a laptop, I was downloading Fallout 3 last night and went to sleep leaving the laptop running, I woke up this morning and saw that the download finished and tried to play it. It started downloading stuff like DirectX and all that, and when it said the thing about Microsoft NET or something like that about Turn Windows Features on or off. I ignored that step and somehow skipped it and got the launcher to appear. I clicked "Play" It started and when I clicked "New" and "Yes" It showed the loading screen and suddenly crashed saying "Fallout 3 Has Stopped Working" How do I fix it?

-Note: Sorry if this is in the wrong thread

well why did you ignore that step...

well why did you ignore that step...
Because, I went to Turn windows features on or off and it was confusing. Microsoft NET was already filled in blue and someone said something about getting it "ticked". I don't know what that means, I've noticed alot of other people are having the New Game problem also.

I don't know; I only have the PC version of Fallout: NV
sorry I can't really help you due to my lack of first-hand experience, but I'll try
what do you mean by Windows features?

I don't know..
It's like a enable this or disable that thing.

the only thing I can think of is to try and enable everything
it might work, but we can be sure at this point that turning everything off will most certainly not work
it's worth a shot?

After the patch or download, did you close the game and reset your PC to allow the changes to take effect? Not doing so can corrupt new installations and cause the thing to behave erratically. If that is the case, you would need to completely uninstall and redo it from scratch.

do what Rughugger said, it sounds a lot less likely to break everything than what I said

I would go in and backup any mods/saves and reinstall.

Same thing happened on my PC a few weeks ago, tried re-installing but that failed :c
Maybe I'll try rugs idea and install a 3rd time.

he hasn't even been able to play the game yet, how would he have saves and why would he have mods

I REAALLLYYY don't want to re-install the game, but if I have to, I guess I might as well.. I'll just hear a few more answers to see if I don't have to re-install the entire game.

Fallout 3 doesn't work with Windows 7 as far as I know
