My dictionary has 2 and a half pages on the word grey!
But it does says they're both acceptable.

I've been wondering the same too. I've always preferred "gray".

I think it's like the word Color, that's the American version. England spells it colour, and they spell gray grey. We spelled it gray. But it isn't official or what all Americans are to call it, Americans were just the first to spell it that way

I was taught to spell it "gray" growing up, but "grey" just makes more sense to me for some reson.
