This evening I was playing Minecraft on my server, and a friend of mine IRL asked me to play Blockland. I introduced him to Blockland years ago, and by now neither one of us had played for...well, many many months if not a year or more.
First of all it was a huge adjustment to RTB 4.0 and I congratulate Ephi on such a huge improvement. I can really see the new features are heavily Steam based and I like that it still feels...natural to blockland. I had no problems starting up my server again, and obtaining all my favorite addons and maps.
To start building after so much time had gone by was a struggle at first, given my muscle memory had adapted to other controls of other games. I found myself pressing E to try to get to the brick selector, and right-clicking to place bricks (stuff, minecraft). But after a bit it felt...natural again. Like at one point i had completely tuned out the building. I was thinking about something else...just listening to music, but my hands were building something. It was so bizarre, yet so amazing.
All in all the higher attention to detail made building more exhausting, but it's an amazing feeling to return to blockland and feel that spark again, and when I say that spark, I mean the feeling I get when I'm truly having fun in a game. When I can start labeling the game as one of my favorites. The same happened with Crash Bandicoot, Minecraft, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Paper Mario, and a few other games.
Just wanted to share this great experience I had returning, despite my unintentional hiatus. Have any of you guys gone through something similar? I doubt too many of you have such a deep connection with the game as I do, but perhaps some of you can understand why this is kind of a big deal for me...
