When a redstone current is fixed into a dispenser, it jettisons items from it's front. Certain items are launched like a player throwing them.

These would be items like snowballs, fire balls (1.2) and arrows. Great for traps, or just dispensing items like rewards.

I'm a little iffy on the diamond block tho

Also sandstone is darker so it doesn't blend in with sand.
