Author Topic: ACM City: Abandoned  (Read 5558 times)

I've always had somewhat of a fascination with abandoned buildings. Something about these forgotten structures just amazes me. Maybe its the mystery surround why people just decided to drop everything and leave. Maybe its amazing to see what happens to these buildings when groundskeepers and police disappear. Or maybe just because its fun to explore places like this.I figured, why not try to replicate a large scale abandoned city in Blockland?

I've decided as somewhat of a side project I will begin work on transforming ACM City into what appears as a ghost city abandoned for decades. My hope is that by the time I'm finally finished the city will look as though it was long abandoned and forgotten.

Think of it as somewhat of a build renovation, but going in the opposite direction.I plan to take nothing out of the default city. This means that for example if their is a shelf sitting in the gas station, I will destroy the original shelf, but I will rebuild it possibly laying on the floor with its contents everywhere. As of now I am taking the project in layers. This means I'm going to start simply by creating smashed windows and such. But as time progresses I plan to replicate overgrowth, vandalism, building deterioration, and finally partial build collapse. At the moment their is not a huge amount to see, but I will post a few pictures to give an idea of what I'm doing.

Fences often built around abandoned structures to keep out tresspassers:

Broken windows and trashed shops throughout the city:

I am putting this progress box here to help keep track of what I've done so far. I've come to realize I'm doing the equivalent of redoing a city so I want to keep a tracker.

Quote from: Progress

1-25:
Grass emitters created
Chain link fences built around city perimeter

1-26:
Some windows of General Store, Gas Station, School, and Bus Stop smashed
Gas Station shelves redone

Created fire damage to clothes store to simulate vandalism

As time goes by I will update the pictures with my progress. You guys can also feel free to suggest things you want me to do with the build.

Looks good. But too much grass effect.

Can't wait to see what happens to the school.

Yeah I plan on altering the grass later in the build to be more efficiently spread out. Putting grass was just a quick thing as of now.

Would you consider adding wild plant/vine growth as adding things? It would help a lot with the abandoned look.

For me, fences are incredibly hard to make, you did a fantastic job on them.

i could teach you how to make really nice ones.

but this is perfect for Zombie stuff

Now we need Beta City 16: Abandoned

Hey Destroyer, can you do me a favor when this is done?

Host zombies on it.

i think you should modify the textures of the actual bedroom map as well, and the lighting too.

IN THE DARK,

Also add vines.

Those fences look a lot like ones my bro made on my ZAPT server.
Note:  I'm not accusing you of stealing, just noticing that.
Great job on the windows, I'm a bit jealous of them myself.  :/
