cats clean themselves, dogs do not, you have to bathe them, and not being responsible enough to do so will cause them to get dirty

Dogs by a long shot. No matter how nice to a cat you are they will scratch and plot against you for their benefit but dogs are eternally loyal, at least in the most common breeds. Chow Chows not so much, though.
