Most European countries do have a large population that speaks English. Miika, for instance, does, but her mother does not. They teach it on schools and the internet plays a major role.

The majority of people I have met from those countries do speak english in some form. Be it broken or not.
But that's the thing, some do speak a little english, some speak it well.However most do not know a word of english other than "hello" or "yes"/"no".
