Author Topic: Spy Sappin' My Internet [Help me :c]  (Read 1833 times)

holy cheese
At around 5pm till the next morning my internet randomly just stops working well.
I can still browse the internet but it loads slowly and youtube videos are extinct.
Steam won't even connect properly so I can't play any games.
Nobody is downloading anything, I checked.
I'm on a wired connection through a special plug-in wifi wire adapter, it's been great till the last few days.
Is it my computer? Help me ;C

EDIT: I'm with Sky Internet unlimited bandwidth + a netgear router.

Have you tried restarting your computer? If not, try that first. If it's still slow after that, try power cycling your router/modem. If that still doesn't work, call your ISP.

Yeah, I've restarted my computer.
What's power cycling?
I asked my dad but he says it's not worth it but he may call if my problem persists.
It doesn't happen with anyone else in the house, but none of them watch videos or download things so I'm pretty sure that's why.

What's power cycling?

Well first of all, do you have both a router and a modem, or just a modem?

What's the difference?
I know I have a router for sure.

K well if you have a router then you most likely have a modem.

To power cycle the two, first unplug the router, wait a few seconds, then unplug the modem. Wait at least 30 seconds (the longer the better) and then plug your modem back in. Wait another 30 and then plug your router back in.

Like I said, if that still doesn't work, call your ISP.

Doesn't say a model, but it's a Netgear Sky Broadband one (like sky broadband is imprinted on it)

K well, you can't have an Internet connection with only a router. There's a modem somewhere in your house, does someone else know where it is?

We are plugged in through the phone line, does that change anything?

It sounds like it has an integrated modem.

The router probably has a built-in modem.

Beat me to it.

You're using a Netgear DSL modem with an integrated router. He means to leave it off for a while then power it back on (about a 15 minute cooldown time should work.)
Check with reviews on your ISP to see if other people get it too. Could be your ISP throttling (dealt with this before, they never say it's on their end.)
Are you using a 10Mb, 100Mb, or 1000Mb (gigabit) connection to the router?
