Author Topic: Is this a powerful gaming laptop?  (Read 3802 times)

Bisjac is telling the truth.

Skyrim on Sony Vaio F Series (Nvidia 330M)
Starcraft 2 Beta on Sony Vaio F - Part 1

And that's just the 330M. We're talking about the 520M here!
holy stuff I just exploded in bits

plus all f series with intel chips can be stock overclocked a good 30% by just flipping a switch. it dosnt even add heat

With the NIVDIA Control panel thingy?

holy stuff I just exploded in bits

You just got shat on, bro

not the graphics, just the cpu. and its done in sony's bios

Agreed?

Agreed.

This is the laptop I plan to get. Thanks Tetris and Bisjac.

Yes, it feels very nice under the hands too. Its got a SLICK design aswell.

Lets be laptop-buddies

...holy...

So its settled. This is a very powerful gaming machine.

Agreed?
No lol, this laptop is stuff.
Seriously. The 520m is about ~20% to 30% worse than the Intel HD 3000 graphics chip. Yeah.
That's possibly the most overpriced laptop around.

Also, bisjac, I thought you knew better. 1. Higher number =/= better. 6670 isn't better than a 5850, however yes, a 520 is marginally better than a 330. So while it was right in that instance, it's the wrong statement to make as advice. 2. I thought you'd know that this was really overpriced. I'd seriously not even pay $600 for this.

But Bisjac even stated that his 330 can run even the most demanding game at full speed on his VAIO F Series laptop, is this true?

Also, Ethan, you have probably spent thousands buying parts and stuff for your custom built DESKTOP computer. This MUST look like stuff to you because you are so used to powerful custom built powerhorses

Okay, Ethan, what are your thoughts on this unit here:

Remember I am looking for running high demanding games very smoothly, and stuff like that.

The 330 is a seriously low end graphics card. Even in a mobile environment, it's low end. It would get maybe low detail on a demanding game at a low laptop resolution.

Also, my $660 laptop has a much better graphics card, the 6770m. It also has a Intel HD 3000 as backup and power saving. The HD 3000 is really slow and I experience quite bad performance. The HD 3000 is comparable in speed to the 520m. It's not a stuff laptop, it's the fact that it's overpriced. For $660, I got a better laptop. The 6770 quite honestly blows away the 520m and is even comparable to a 560m in some benchmarks.

Also, my mistake, upon further research, a 330m is better than a 520m. So Bisjac's is more powerful than yours.

That's a great laptop. Still a tad overpriced though. Unlike NCIX to do that. Linus from NCIX is usually very competitive with his prices.

That's a little less powerful for a lot less price. It's also quite a bit better than your $900 one. And a better brand.

This one is pretty much equal with the above one, but a bit cheaper. It's got a better processor, but a little less RAM. RAM is cheap and can be added later on, however what it comes with is honestly ample.

This one is another step up. Kinda equal to the Asus you suggested but a bit cheaper.

All three of these would and can be able to run high demanding games/programs very smoothly, correct?

Also if these two were the only options to choose from, which would you go for?:

Definitely the first one, however don't forget there is a $400 price difference. The first one is definitely better however the other one is still really great for the price :)

Sounds great! Thanks for all your help, bud! I'll let you know if anything else comes up.

I believe you have saved me from making a big mistake in buying that one Vaio

Don't get me wrong, it's a great PC, and Sony's are great. But it's overpriced :) Should be 550 - 600.

The ones above are way better for what you want :D

Well I just want a more powerful gaming laptop that is much better than this hunk of junk I'm using currently
