Author Topic: I LMFAO'd: BBC - 1 out of 2 parents in the UK think fairy tales are 'too scary'  (Read 1026 times)

Grimm's fairy tales are actually pretty dark. A butcher gets his eyes  pecked out for some reason. By birds.

Then again, nobody really reads them anymore.

i remember seeing a movie, i think it was something about the grimms
some little girl got swallowed by a horse

what would exactly be the problem if the fairy tales were actually scary
children are supposed to have a moment of fear, otherwise the child would like, get a heart attack from a spider
those parents need to toughen the forget up

some little girl got swallowed by a horse

Was Grimm a vorephile?

OH GOD PLEASE NO

I was FORCED to watch that as a child and it scarred me ever since. I don't think there is even a plotline at all. Its all just creepy stuff like moving trees and severed heads and rotted corpses and stuff

Do you recall the name of this film?

Watch as someone makes a pun on Grimm's fairytales

for some reason they never unnerved me as a child

Brother's Grimm, featuring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger.
Only released in 2005.

It wasn't too bad, I quite like it.
But on first watch the storyline is a bit awkward. It does follow a plotline though.
And the child is wrapped in cobwebs sneezed from the horse and then eaten up in a coccoon.
About as creepy as when a person made of mud eats a child and steals her away.

It depends on what fairy tales they're talking about.
Disney's versions, then no.
Proper Brothers Grimm stories, then yes.
And then there's a Roald Dahl retelling of the common laid-back fairy tales made gruesome again.

I always liked fairy tales.

Also, what's your source on this? 1/2 is a very exact amount to declare in any study.
If it was done out of 10 parents and 5 said it's too scary, it's not really fair to declare that half of the country is scared of them.

BBC News. can't find the story on the website though...

Found it.
But nothing on the research.
States 1/4 parents find them too scary.

Edit: I'm really interested in finding the actual survey information, if it's released but I can't get any luck so far.
Tried searching on uktv.co.uk, which apparently ran the survey, but I can't find anything on there.
Is anyone else able to find anything?
