Author Topic: What determines a persons taste in music  (Read 3182 times)

We all like different kind of music, while some people may love rock, others all they hear is heavy guitar.

Well I was thinking, what decides what kind of music do you like, is it what people make you hear when your younger?
But even when your a young child, you still dislike music, so what decides it? Any one have any ideas?

Well, duh, taste in music is just like having a taste in food, or games.

influences during your childhood, your parents' preferences, etc
example: my dad would always sing I am the walrus by the beatles
now I loving love the beatles

The experiences we associate with that kind of music.

i like rock, rap, all kinds of weird stuff

But I grew up surrounded by Mexican mariachi music....

I hate that.

My parents really sort of hate romantic era classical music but I love it.

I like music which nobody in my family has ever listened to and I always have.
What now, Captain Influence?

My dad played a lot of classic rock when I was little, mainly Sting and the Police. So I grew up listening to classic rock and I love it now.

I enjoy edm
nobody in my family knows what that is

it's pretty weird, actually. i like both of these songs, and they're pretty different except for the fact they're loud. i like songs where it's low, too, though.
