Author Topic: Possibly Buying a Bass, Things to avoid? (Not the Fish kind) (No Dubstep either)  (Read 985 times)

Me and a few friends are possibly starting a garage band, and I want to buy a bass just so I can be a little bit more flexible. I know I already play two other instruments, but basses are pretty damn cool. I'm not looking for anything special, I'm just going to stroll into Music & Arts, buy a cheap ass bass, and walk out. I was thinking of just going for a four string. Is there anything to avoid I.E. stuffty Wiring, Anything made in "X" Country, or specific brands? I don't care about pickups, It could have just one for all I care, I just want to have some backup and something to goof around with.

Edit: I have possibly up to $60 to blow.

Edit Deux: I have a grandpa at my haus who plays bass in a band, I should talk to him too.

Edit Trois: If possible I would love it if this guitar had a Sunburst finish.

ok first
buy a bowl big enough it can swim freely
keep it out of direct light/and or sources of heat
feed
clean bowl

No clue. You could probably just ask the people in the storeh, or if you're lucky enough, ask a professional musician. Either way, you're going to get at least decent advice. Good luck!

Rickenbacker Fireglo
(it's good you should get it)

What are those metal plates across the strings for? I even asked my grandpa waht it was for and he said he didn't know and he just removed the ones on his basses.

Nonetheless it looks pretty lovey.

I believe it's to reduce fretting.

People.

C'mon People

You have to know more.

Um

A starter Ibanez bass was my first one.
But i'm sure the whole kit was:
-bass
-15 watt amp
-chord
-case

And it costs $200

You could always go for a used cheap one.

you should buy it

and then drop it

I can't believe I didn't see that coming.

Going for a used one sounds smart.

IMO Ibanez makes some good simple stuff.
I love playing mine <3

Get a Fender Jaguar.

Sickest bass I've ever laid eyes on.

All my friends are jealous and it sounds amazing, the strings I got, 80 bucks, feel like butter.

Ugh <3
bliss.

Try that, but youll have to convert pounds sterling to dollars
Its got a sunburst effect and a full kit so no need to worry about amps and stands an shizz
