Author Topic: Question about DVI connectors  (Read 797 times)

What's the difference between DVI, DVI-I and DVI-D? And can DVI-I carry audio as well as video?

Well you can obviously not DVI-D by zero.

Barely any difference. DVI doesn't carry audio at all.

Weird, I've recently ordered a DVI-I to RCA converter, and it has all 3 cables. A lot of people bought it and gave good feedback.

Actually, there are differences. For example, a 120hz monitor requires a DVI Dual Link cable.
I'm sure a google search would yield good results, OP.

This seems like a good opportunity to ask.
Is it true that VGA has better picture quality when it comes to color transitions?

I don't think so. I definitely prefer DVI in all aspects.

I prefer HDMI just because it'll carry audio as well as video

Good for TVs, but most monitors nowadays don't have inbuilt speakers, or do and are of very low quality.

But monitor speakers stuck. :o

Can anyone explain this to me: http://goo.gl/KNWF8
DVI can carry audio, and has since 2008 with adapters. The actual interface DVI to DVI doesn't, however DVI to HDMI or RCA does as those support audio.

Thank you Ethan, like always  :cookieMonster:
