Author Topic: Did Lego Shutdown Blockland in 2005?  (Read 1658 times)

I was reading the Blockland Wikipedia from 2005, one of the first posts about Blockland in Wikipedia and it says

"As of February 15, 2005, however, BlockLand was discontinued due to a cease and desist order from Lego, Inc."

I also read on the recent wikipedia "At one point, Lego offered to buy Blockland from Hartman and give him a job working on the game for at least a year.[8] After not hearing back from Lego for some time, Eric went ahead with working on a more complete, retail version of Blockland, having removed all of the copyrighted Lego content."

My theory is that after Badspot declined their offer, Lego shut Blockland down and probably with a reason saying how the studs and characters resembled too much of their products. Who else agrees? Well my main question is if Blockland really did get shutdown by Lego in 2005.

Lego wanted to buy Blockland from Eric but things didn't go so well

It's a lie spread by Lego

I think badspot considered it, but then was only offered a place in blockland as the lead graphics designer. It was either that or they didn't get back to him, so badspot then made the new minifigs (they didnt look like lego anymore) and blockland became its own individual game. Unfortunately it meant that blockland just isn't as popular as it would be if badspot was to go with lego, but lego could've fired him if they wanted.

And by "Popular" you mean having more small children being forgettards.

Just like Roblox!

Badspot explained the entire scenario in one of his posts, let me find the quote.

Yeah, more or less. Still, with the forgettards come people who can be a stuff ton of fun :D

Blockland as it was in 2005 was shut down and redone from scratch into what we have today, methinks.
I hadn't even heard of Blockland in 2005, so don't blame me if I'm wrong.

I just read the whole thing, it was actually really interesting. And at the end how he said that couldve been a plot from LEGO..if it was then they got hit with Karma. LEGO Universe was ass, and they just recently shut down the servers.

*Sighs in relaxation* I like Blockland.
