Author Topic: 20 Years Old and Blockland as my success in life.  (Read 3040 times)

I just turned 20 Years old, been here since I was 13, can you believe that... actually old cigarettes could.

Since its my 20th I'd like to give a shout out to Blockland itself being the one thing that drove me to where I am now. With out it I wouldn't of believed that game development was possible, creating 3D art and enjoying life in general. I am currently writing up a several page story on my Blockland Journey but for now this'll do.

Started playing Blockland back in 2005, by the end of that year I started messing with Milkshape 3D which then over time developed in to rubbish "Mods" for v0002, after that picked up a copy of Torque Game Engine and started messing with it, couple years on I did a Cert II course which taught me the basics of 3DS Max, continued to mess with that, 2 years ago started a Cert IV, last year continued that into an Adv. Diploma of Game Art Development and now.... I'm currently starting an Indie Company.

All thanks to lil old Blockland.

When I look back in the early days I was actually going through some really bad depression but I always had something to fall back to that really helped me, even though I struggled with simple things like Grammar and simple language skills.

Side note, when I get a chance I'll be doing some 3DS Max Blockland related tutorials as Manty showed me that someone had developed v24 DTS for 3ds max's latest versions.

Edit:

Playing as a Zombie Stunt Man Extra in a local film called "Theater of the Dead".

Forgot to mention, I'm going to America in about a weeks time! I'll be attending the Game Developers Conference through my scholarship with my school (AIE). So I'll be in Sans Fransisco, I won't mind meeting anyone if they're attending GDC (Highly unlikely) but I will be cursing around SF. Quick mention about AIE, they're the school I've been getting all my game development education from and they're finally setting up shop in the USA... I highly recommend them mainly due to the fact I now teach part time with them.

Happy Birthday and congratulations.

Happy birthday man! Good to hear all that.

cool story bro

That's really awesome how you got your start from us... I feel all special :D

Happy Birthday and congratulations.
So.  What kind of game are you imagining with Torque?

Currently project we're working on isn't on Torque, its a 2D game on Android, hoping to learn a bit about the market first then move on to PC later once we've got a bit of money backing.

Totally forgot to mention I'm going to Game Developers Conference in San's Francisco in a weeks time.

Who know that playing a simple block building game could lead to such a thing (with some dedication too)

Smart thinking.  Good idea to get some experience in 2d Design and a financial backup in a good market.

Going to SF in a few weeks.  I'll just miss you lol.

(Might wanna post the game you guys made here, I'm interested)

We're currently in the prototyping phase, if it plays well and easy to develop future we hope to have it out by Q2. Other then that I'm not mentioning anything on it as its still in a legal issue phase where someone could potentially steal the idea or otherwise claim rights to it before we do. Just playing it safe but the moment we start showing stuff off I'll definitely be posting it in Games.

I'll be looking forward to it! :D
