Author Topic: Turntable.fm - Play Music Together - Come DJ!  (Read 6543 times)

Turntable is a great site for sharing music. It's a pretty simple concept. People join a room, a stand of 5 people can be DJ'ing. They can search through a large database of music or upload their own and put together a playlist. Songs are played in turn, so once you go, the guy DJ'ing next to you goes, and so on.

There's a feature to vote up music, or vote it down. If a song gets enough votes down, it's skipped and the next DJ gets to play.

It's a lot of fun, and I think you guys will have fun with it. I've created a Blockland room, so come check it out and play some music! It's private, so only Blocklanders can find it and use it from right here, on the original Turntable topic for Blockland.

ANY GENRE IS ACCEPTABLE. DO NOT SKIP A SONG SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS METAL OR SOME GENRE YOU DON'T LIKE. It's not okay to play 40 dubstep songs, and then come upon one metal song and skip it in the first 10 seconds. It's unacceptable behavior for a room that allows all genres of music to play. Don't get the douchey idea that your music tastes are far superior, and therefore another genre shouldn't get to play. Want a dubstep only room? MAKE ONE. I would add it to the list. We already have a metal only room, but the main room is for ALL GENRES. I REPEAT. ALL GENRES.

Main Room - Private
Rock/Metal Only - Public
Electronic Only - Private
Indie Only - Public
Prometheus EDM (dubstep/electronic only) - Public
Vietnam Era Counter-culture Only - Private

Room Rules
  • Be respectful of other musical opinions. This means no bashing an artist simply because of a bias. Give the song a chance, and if a majority of the room doesn't want to hear it, it can be skipped.
  • Allow a song to play for at least 30-45 seconds. Breaking this rule gets you booted.
  • This room isn't for hogging the scene, and voting down music just to get your song played faster. Wait your turn, and listen to what people have to play. This relates to the previous rule.

I would join, but it is gay and will only let me use either a Facebook or Twitter account.

What's the room called? I have the iPhone app for it. :D

There was a bit of confusion and chaos in the few minutes before I listed the rules. Assuming you're DJ dump, I'll say this: come back when you're not trolling.

If it wasn't you, whoever DJ Dump is: this room isn't open for your incessant trolling.

i was downvoting songs i disliked to get them skipped. if i dislike a song, i will downvote it. that way, if the room agrees with me, the song gets skipped

Before you even hear the song? You were downvoting songs without hearing 5-10 seconds of them.

The main purpose of this room is to discuss music, discover new music, and share your own. And you decided to down-vote quality song one after another so you could this bizarre sounding gangster rap that sounded like a joke song.

What an inaccurate use of this picture.

It's no fun to have complete chaos, where every song is skipped in 2 seconds. If no rules are set for this room, and idiot trolls don't get booted, nobody has any fun.

Enforcing these rules and keeping the room to discussion of music, discovery of music, and sharing of music makes the site fun for the group.

i was talking about kicking the guy for the rap song

It wasn't like...a legit rap song. If you would have heard it you would have either laughed or kicked him.
